Mass Cultural Council’s Recover, Rebuild, Renew Series kicks off this month with virtual workshops led by consultants with local and macro-level perspectives, and featuring notable voices from our field. Through this series, the cornerstone of the Agency’s FY21 Service Agenda, Mass Cultural Council is proud to support the cultural sector’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic and work towards a more resilient future..

Board and Governance

• The role of an effective board during times of stress – Part 1 (Feb. 2) and Part 2 (Feb. 9)

Sessions will be led by Claire West Consulting from Tucson, AZ. On Feb. 9 we will also be joined by a panel of leaders in the field:

• • Christine McCarthy, CEO, Provincetown Art Association and Museum
  • John Linehan, President & CEO, Zoo New England
  • Michael Machnowsku, Board Treasurer, Tower Bill Botanic Garden

• How to motivate and support board members remotely (Feb. 4)

Session will be led by Arts Extension Service from Amherst, MA. We will also be joined by a panel of leaders in the field:

• • David Sneed, Executive Director, Handel and Haydn Society
  • Bill Veillette, Executive Director, Northeast Document Conservation Center & Board Trustee, Historic Deerfield

• Successful board recruitment/retainment process in times of stress (Feb. 11)

Session will be led by Claire West Consulting from Tucson, AZ.

Legal Issues for Arts Administrators

• Risk assessment concerns for nonprofit boards and staff during COVID-19 (Feb. 23)

Session will be led by Arts and Business Council of Greater Boston.

Human Resources

• Moving Forward Together: Balancing Stressors & Finding Support for Executive Directors and Similar Leaders – Part 1 (Feb. 25) and Part 2 (Mar. 4)

Sessions will be led by EA Strategic Partners from Boston, MA. On Feb. 25 we will also be joined by a panel of leaders in the field:

  • Catherine Morris, Founder & Executive Director, BAMS Fest
  • Alexandria Oliver-Davila, Executive Director, Sociedad Latina
