Jen Lawless, Senior Director of Program Operations
As part of Mass Cultural Council’s equity work, we have an open call for reviewers to ensure we have a variety of perspectives and experience built into our grant review.
The Agency contracts with people in the cultural sector to review applications to our grant programs. Grants are reviewed by external reviewers who review applications through our online grants management system.
Mass Cultural Council reviewers include artists, educators, administrators, community leaders, and other people involved in the arts, humanities, and sciences. Reviewers are provided a stipend for their work. The stipend is calculated based on the time required by each program.
To ensure each panel represents diversity in a variety of areas, Mass Cultural Council considers the following factors when putting together a panel of reviewers:
Reviewer Responsibilities
A reviewer’s time commitment will vary depending on the review materials. Reviewers will be asked to attend an online orientation/training meeting before they begin scoring applications.
If you are interested in serving as a reviewer, please complete a Reviewer Registration Form in our online grants management system. If you have completed the form in the past, feel free to edit your form at any time to ensure it is up to date.
We cannot guarantee placement on a grants review. We know there are more qualified potential reviewers than review opportunities. There are currently almost 1,000 people interested in serving and we work with 50 to 75 reviewers each year. Selected reviewers will be contacted by phone or email. Thank you for your interest.
If you have questions about the form, contact the Mass Cultural Council staff connected to the program you are interested it.
