Each month Mass Cultural Council shares a round-up of grants, trainings, technical assistance resources, and opportunities for cultural organizations (a companion to our Useful Links page). This list is not meant to be exhaustive but a glimpse of what is on offer in the coming weeks. (We also publish a weekly Artist Opportunities listing.)
Funding
The Howard E. Stark Charitable Foundation provides grants up to $2,500 to small, high-impact nonprofits that improve the well-being of people with funding focused on education, rehabilitation, the arts, and community development. Deadline: Aug. 31, 2026.
The Lenny Zakim Fund is accepting applications to support grassroots 501(c)(3) nonprofit or fiscally-sponsored organizations with budgets less than $350,000 that work to advance social, racial, and economic justice. Deadline: Sept. 1, 2026.
The Bolger Foundation offers nonprofits grants for capital projects, with initiatives in conservation, underserved populations, health, community, and education. Deadline: Sept. 1, 2026.
Target’s Community Engagement Funds is a community grant program that empowers Target stores and distribution center leaders to make meaningful, localized giving decisions that meet the needs of communities. It prioritizes nonprofit programs and initiatives aligned to its focus areas:
- Thriving Families: Basic needs and youth development.
- Vibrant Neighborhoods: Community vitalization; Community and green spaces.
- Emerging Creative & Culture: Cultural partnerships and creative programming.
- Economic Opportunity: Workforce development.
Next deadline: Sept. 3, 2026.
Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts is accepting applications for their Flexible Funding 2027 program which aims to provide unrestricted financial support to sustain day-to-day operations of nonprofit organizations serving Franklin, Hampden, and/or Hampshire Counties. Deadline: Sept. 4, 2026 at 12pm.
The American Theatre Wing is accepting applications for its National Theatre Company Grants. Five grants of $100,000 will be awarded annually to support projects that represent visionary approaches to presenting new work in regional theater. Deadline: Sept. 4, 2026.
Foundation for Rural Service’s Community Grant supports programs that work with rural communities that are part of the NTCA Rural Broadband Association (community based broadband providers in rural America) to build and sustain a high quality of life in rural America. Deadline: Sept. 4, 2026.
TD Charitable Foundation’s next regional grant deadline is Sept. 11, 2026, and funds local programs making an impact in the communities that meet one of the their Ready Commitments.
Adelard A. and Valeda Lea Roy Foundation’s grants support nonprofit organizations in Massachusetts and Northern New England working in the arts, education, health, and environmental sectors. Grants range from $2,500 to $10,000 and prioritize projects that improve food security, housing, cultural access, and opportunities for low-income youth, Indigenous communities, and immigrants. Deadline: Sept. 15, 2026.
Yawkey Foundation is accepting Initial Proposals for its Program and Small Capital Grants, which may fund a discrete timebound program need, one small project, or a piece of equipment aligned with a nonprofit’s purpose. This submission period is specific to Arts & Culture: Sept. 1-18, 2026.
Through their Community Technology Grant, Schultz Consulting selects one or two local greater Boston area nonprofit and community organizations and builds a defined technology project for them at no cost. Depending on the organization’s needs, that could include a website improvement, an online registration system, workflow automation, accessibility enhancements, or another practical technology solution. Deadline: Rolling.
Arts Foundation of Cape Cod’s provides school bus funding up to $800 to help any Barnstable County school with the transportation costs of student cultural field trips. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and must be in at least 30 days prior to the trip. Grants will be awarded until funds run out.
Through the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ GrantWell, Massachusetts municipalities and their partners can discover, understand, and draft applications for state and federal grants.
Hozhonigo Institute’s Tribal Funding Registry is a searchable grants database designed for Tribal Nations and Native-led nonprofits.

Creative community leaders are invited to join the CreativeGround Community Leader Workshop on Aug. 6, 2026 from 10-11:30am. Connect virtually with other leaders and learn hands-on how to use CreativeGround.org as a free resource in your community.
Register for Mass Office of Travel & Tourism’s Back to Basics: Working with MOTT and Regional Tourism Councils and learn about ways to connect with them through professional development, grant opportunities, business listings, and content marketing as well as best practices for working with your Regional Tourism Council. Aug. 12, 2026 at 10am.
Fall of Freedom is organizing a virtual ‘Know Your Rights’ webinar geared towards nonprofit arts institutions and their staff. Hear what the IRS rules actually are with respect to political speech and nonprofit status. Aug. 12, 2026 at 6:30pm.
Creating Abundance Collaborative’s Creative Economy Pathways Virtual Town Hall Series explores how Creative Youth Development is expanding career pathways for young people through arts-based experiences and youth leadership. This virtual series brings together local and national voices for monthly conversations on the future of work, creativity, and opportunity. Who should attend? Creative Youth Development leaders and practitioners, teaching artists, workforce development professionals, employers and industry partners, funders, researchers, policymakers, and young adults interested in creative careers. Register for one or multiple sessions. All sessions are 1-2:30pm via Zoom.

Other
The Funders’ Collaborative on Youth Organizing will launch its next round of capacity-building programming in early 2027. Youth and intergenerational organizing projects interested in their cohort-based opportunities are invited to complete their eligibility screener. Deadline: Aug. 19, 2026.
Groundwork USA is accepting applications for the 2026-2027 Nonprofit Land Reuse Learning Cohort. This free, six-month virtual program is designed to help nonprofits and community organizations effectively lead brownfield site reuse projects – with a strong focus on community-centered engagement. Deadline: Aug. 21, 2026.
Social Innovation Forum is accepting applications for their 2027 Social Innovator Accelerator Program which provides participating nonprofit organizations (Social Innovators) with support and resources to deepen and expand their work and impact in Eastern Massachusetts. Deadline: Aug. 26 at 5pm.
Mass Cultural Council’s Cultural District Designation application is now open to prospective communities. Deadline: Feb. 8, 2027.
