The Mâseepee Cultural Council

The Mâseepee Cultural Council supports the work of tribal storytellers, artists, and researchers with funding allocated through the Mass Cultural Council. The inaugural Mâseepee Cultural Council membership is composed of the members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribal Historic Preservation Commission.

The funding priorities of the Mâseepee Cultural Council are subject to evolve based on community need and feedback. For the FY2025-2026 funding cycle, the Mâseepee Cultural Council will accept applications from enrolled members of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe whose work involves:

Preserving oral history, traditional stories
Supporting Artisans
Building Capacity

Including:
Cultural education
Youth programming
Archival development and research
Revitalization of traditional arts and language
Community cultural events
Youth academic and professional development programs
Relationship building and collaboration between the Tribe and educational institutions

Proposal ideas might include:
Talking Circles
Community-based storytelling, sourced from the community and/or archival materials
Community-based oral history recording/sharing
Art exhibits
Traditional or traditionally inspired music development and performance
Traditional crafting demonstrations and classes
Theater or film projects that support community building through cultural and historical awareness

One application per applicant
Awards range between $500- $2000 based on proposal scope and relevance to the council’s priorities of preserving oral history, supporting artisans, and building capacity.
