National Assembly of State Arts Agencies Showcases Ingenuity at Mass Cultural Council
Culture is inclusive and welcoming to all – as creators, participants, or audiences. It breaks down barriers, whether physical, socioeconomic, or educational.
Mass Cultural Council’s Universal Participation (UP) Award celebrates excellence in access and inclusion throughout the Commonwealth’s cultural sector. This year we are hosting a five-part, livestreamed event with HowlRound from June 1-5, 2020. 11-11:30am (ET) daily.
As part of this celebration, we will honor the following UP Designated Organizations:
Community Asset Award
Open Door Arts
Council Recognition Awards
Barrington Stage
South Shore Conservatory
UP Award Finalists
Abilities Dance
Arts Emerson
The Discovery Museum
Tower Hill Botanic Garden
Wheelock Family Theatre
One finalist will receive the 2020 UP Award and a $10,000 prize during our June 5 livestream.
Sara Minkara of Empowerment Through Integration will deliver a keynote on the value of inclusion on June 2.
This series will include musical performances by Massachusetts artists Adrian Anantawan, Me2 Orchestra, Precious Perez, and Queen Mab.
There will also be a daily universal design challenge offered to viewers to complete at home to brush up on their access knowledge.
This event will be captioned and interpreted in American Sign Language. If you have additional questions or access requests, please contact Angelina Lupini.
