Boston Youth Arts Evaluation Project
From 2008-2012 Raw Art Works collaborated with Zumix, The Theater Offensive, Medicine Wheel Productions (now called SPOKE), and the Hyde Square Task Force to form the Boston Youth Arts Evaluation Project (BYAEP). Mass Cultural Council has supported all five BYAEP organizations through our YouthReach Initiative for over 20 years. H. Mark Smith, then Program Manager of YouthReach, also served as an advisor to the four-year collaboration. We are happy to share with the field this rich collection of resources and tools for program evaluation developed through BYAEP as a significant contribution to the field.
BYAEP developed a framework and tools to measure the three main outcome areas which are characteristic of arts-based youth development programs:
I CREATE: builds artistic, problem solving, and expressive skills.
Youth develop skills in artistic engagement, problem solving, critical thinking, and expression.
I AM: strengthens identity.
Youth develop confidence, knowledge of self, an informed cultural identity, and a positive view of their future.
WE CONNECT: develops community.
Youth develop meaningful relationships and civic engagement as they contribute to and are recognized by an inclusive community.
