The Studio of Jonathan Sherman

The Studio of Jonathan Sherman is a working artist’s studio, gallery, and atelier dedicated to preserving and teaching the methods and philosophies of 15th–19th century European artistic traditions.

Located in the historic Mugford Building in Marblehead, Massachusetts, the 1,600-square-foot studio offers an ideal environment, with expansive north-facing windows and hand-painted ceilings.

Jonathan Sherman trained and taught in Florence, Italy, at Charles H. Cecil Studios — a direct link to the Boston School tradition through Cecil’s own training with R.H. Ives Gammell and Richard Lack. The Studio of Jonathan Sherman offers workshops, private lessons, and ongoing training for dedicated students seeking mastery of traditional realism, sight-size technique, and naturalistic painting, drawing and sculpting from life.

Sherman’s oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures are held in private and corporate collections throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia. Eleven works are in the private collection of Eijk and Rose-Marie van Otterloo, and he has been commissioned to create six bronze sculptures for Maddox & Partners in Naples, Florida. In addition to completing over 40 commissions, Jonathan’s works of art have been part of solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States and abroad.
