Tara Sellios

I am a visual artist working primarily in large format film photography, but also in drawing and installation.  Influenced by art histroy, especially imagery based in Christian iconography, I create painterly still life scenes and photograph them with 8×10 film, which allows for large scale prints.  

I received a BFA in photography with a minor in art history in 2010 from the Art Institute of Boston (now Lesley College of Art and Design).   Recent solo exhibitions include Sinuous at C. Grimaldis Gallery, Baltimore, Testimony at Blue Sky Gallery, Portland and Luxuria at Gallery Kayafas,
Boston. I am a Massachusetts Cultural Council fellowship recipient, a Getty Images Creative Bursary recipient and was named an emerging photographer to watch by Art New England magazine. My next solo exhibition will be at Gallery Kayafas this upcoming September (2019).  

This past year I have been lecturing at various different places more often, ranging from high schools, graduate programs, to Getty Images in NYC. Presenting and guest teaching is something I’d like to do more of, as I love being able to contribute in an educational environment without being a full time teacher.   I remember being a student and finding visits from guest artists being so helpful and memorable, I can only hope to have the same affect. One of my goals is to be able to travel to speak and guest teach all over.
