UJALA – Dharavi / Mumbai, India
The power of art and light bring beauty and safety to the narrow and dim passageways between homes and workshops in the Dharavi slum of Mumbai, India. Public art project ujala, named for the Hindi word for illumination, is a collaboration between artists and community members in Mumbai, and artists and designers in the United States. Through the process of developing an innovative system that combines LED lighting with fishnets and artwork, the team is working to empower residents and respectfully honor the community.
33 Years – (Difference in Life expectancy) Back Bay <-> Roixbury
How can the life expectancy in Roxbury, Massachusetts be 58.9, when just 3 miles away in Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood one’s life expectancy is 91.9? This project aims to bring awareness to this massive disparity.
Collins Park – Public Park in Allston, MA
Re-design to create a park that is open visually and physically but within the park one has a sense of enclosure and solitude. This work includes a installation of all fence, artwork, and planting elements of the park at the intersection of Franklin, Holton, and Fern Streets in Lower Allston. Named in tribute to a local resident who gave his life in WWII, the park is at the bend along what was the most direct path between Cambridge and Boston in the 17th C. Perhaps the oldest public space in Allston. The park provides several outdoor rooms for safe gathering, a ping pong table, a swinging bench and a Public Memorial Altar.
