Seat Gallery is an environmentally responsible, artisan owned workshop that reimagines and transforms abandoned chairs into those with aesthetic and function. Each chair receives special attention to transform it for a new life as functional art.
I’m Crystal Jeffries, a long time admirer of textiles.My work has been featured in publications by Stampington & Company, including GreenCraft and Sew Somerset. It was GreenCraft that opened my eyes to creating art by repurposing found objects and reusing things we throw in the trash and recycle bin. In 2012, I discovered the traditional craft of upholstery, an art that integrated my sewing ability with my fondness for working with tools, textiles and the practice of reimagining found objects. Because my approach to sewing has always been straightforward and a means to a utilitarian end, the transition to upholstering chairs was a natural one. I said to myself, “What is more utilitarian than a chair?” Seat Gallery was born.
