I am a certified high school visual arts teacher with a BFA in Art Education and a concentration in Textile Design from UMass Dartmouth. I also hold an MA.Ed in Education with a certification in Critical and Creative Thinking from UMass Boston.
My most recent works are an exploration in abstraction inspired by the history and landscape of Quincy, MA and the island of Nantucket. In the summers of 2013 and 2014, I studied under professor and painter Wilfredo Chiesa, on the island. There, I was immersed in natural beauty and was educated about man’s history with nature and those who came before. Upon my return to the mainland, I ventured into areas of Quincy I have never seen before including Black’s Creek, Sailors Home Cemetery Salt Marsh, and Mount Wollaston Cemetery, and was once again inspired by the rich history and landscape.
I bring to both my paintings and mixed media work, a background in drawing and surface design (textile design). I tend to work in layers, exposing the paint or paper that came before, with a constant back and forth in subtraction and addition. Chance and creative problem solving are a large part of my process.
