Santiago Hernandez

I am a Boston-based painter, Fine Arts professor and musician. My early training as an artist focused on figure drawing and painting. My early training also included graphic design and architecture, which is evident in my work. My personal work combines geometric abstraction with architectural references in mixed media paintings that are mostly large in scale. Other influences include the work of Piet Mondriand and M.C. Escher as well as jazz music.

I teach in the Fine Arts department at the Lesley University College of Art and Design. I have been teaching at LUCAD since 2002.

I am also a practicing musician. I play jazz drums and Afro-Cuban percussion. I have led several jazz trios and a quartet and perform regulary throughout the Boston area in clubs, festivals and charitable events.
