I have been proud to be a maker of objects for over 30 years. Honing my craft started at the University of Northern Iowa with Tom Stancliffe where I received a BFA in Sculpture. I moved on to graduate school to work with Bruce White at Northern Illinois University receiving my MFA in sculpture in 1994. The most important part of my education was being involved in the studios of these artists, and working on their major public projects. It taught me important skills in the discipline but more importantly enmeshed me in the community of sculptors that Chicago has become known for.
I worked and taught in the area for five years after graduate school, participating in many of the important shows for large-scale sculpture. My works were featured in Pier Walk in 1996-2000 on Chicago’s Navy Pier and in the first four editions of the Sarasota Season of Sculpture in Sarasota, Florida.
In this time period I took a job teaching sculpture in Bridgewater, MA at Bridgewater State University. I remain there as professor of sculpture and currently serve as department chair. Besides sculpture I have a strong interests in digital design, 3D printing and undergraduate and honors research in art.
My studio practice envelops both large-scale public works and smaller residentially scaled pieces. I have partnered with a former student, Derek Riley to form a fabrication company at my studio to realize my sculpture but also to offer design and fabrication services to high-end homebuilders in Southern New England. This partnership has allowed for a range of expertise and equipment available to build my work and expand my horizons visually.
Although the circumstances have varied over the years, the goal to create and show great work remains the same.
