I am a collage and book artist. My books range from traditional to unique works of art. Traditional books are sewn with a Coptic Binding and are sized for your pocket, a briefcase and gallery installations. The covers are composed of marbled papers, paste papers, handmade papers or a variety of design paper. Hand-sewn journals are my own design or custom-made for each individual.
My aims are to also explore the boundary of book space. In one of my books – “Light at the End of the Tunnel”- the observer is drawn to peek through the hole in the cover; a hint of discovery beneath each page. Other works include folded origami or accordion books, my fanciful “Book Lovers Series”, and three-dimensional sculptural books. “Captured Memories”, made from wire mesh dipped in flax pulp, signifies a cage where memories are held within a teacup. This book was featured in the March 2013 Boston Museum of Fine Arts newsletter.
Other artist books were in the show “Word Play” at Uforge Gallery in Jamaica Plain, MA, Bhoomi Art Space in Cambridge, MA, two paper sculptures in “Song Cycles” sponsored by Unbound Visual Arts in Allston, MA, an altered books was sold in the juried show UNBOUND-VOL.IV at ArtisTree Gallery in Vermont, 2 works showed in the juried show in Boston called Beyond the Book, and recently 3 exhibited in Books Abound in Cambridge and one of my marbled paintings will exhibit in NH for Healing Arts.
I have exhibited in other craft shows including Newbury Handmade Market in Boston, Brookline Open Studios, Coolidge Corner Arts Festival, Boston Arts Festival, Needham, Wellesley and various holiday bazaars.
I use my musical background as a cellist to draw inspiration for upcoming projects. The accordion book “Sonata” is in a collection in Boston. The book takes center stage as a performer in motion.
