I am reaching out with great enthusiasm to present a cultural and educational project that aims to strengthen mariachi education in Boston by establishing a professional training space where musicians and students can learn and preserve this tradition with authenticity and excellence.
I am Oswaldo Betancourt González, a musician from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, the birthplace of mariachi. With over 25 years of experience, I have dedicated my life to the performance and teaching of traditional mariachi, training musicians in all essential instruments: guitarrón, vihuela, guitar, trumpet, and violin. My career has allowed me to share mariachi on international stages and promote its cultural richness.
My goal is to establish a suitable space for mariachi instruction in Boston, along with the necessary instruments that will allow students to learn with quality and authenticity. This center will serve to educate aspiring musicians and strengthen the cultural connection between the Latin community and its heritage.
This project will also serve as the foundation for the International Mariachi Gathering in Boston, an event that will bring together top mariachi groups from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, as well as Europe, Asia, and Latin America, in concerts and workshops that will promote cultural exchange.
To turn this vision into reality, we are seeking funding in two key areas:
Funding for instruments to ensure that students have access to guitarrón, vihuela, guitar, trumpet, and violin for their training.
Financial support for a physical space, an appropriate location for classes, rehearsals, and educational activities.
