Ocean Eversley is a Massachusetts-based visual artist, painter, photographer, poet, and writer whose creative practice explores identity, spirituality, place, belonging, beauty, and the lived experiences of BIPOC women. A self-taught painter with a practice spanning approximately six years, Ocean works primarily in acrylic and oil, creating figurative and landscape-based artwork inspired by the ocean, Martha’s Vineyard, Cape Cod, Indigenous and African American histories, and the relationship between people and place.
Her work often centers BIPOC women as active subjects and interpreters of their own experiences, with particular attention to visibility, cultural identity, connection to land and water, and the many ways people experience belonging. Her visual language moves between realism and an ethereal, dreamlike quality, combining carefully developed figures with elements of landscape, light, water, sky, and spirituality.
Ocean has a longstanding relationship with Martha’s Vineyard, where she first began visiting as a child and later lived for more than three decades. That relationship continues to shape her artistic perspective and informs much of her painting, photography, poetry, and public-facing creative work.
Her practice includes studio painting, photography, poetry, creative writing, public art, exhibitions, and community-based arts engagement. She is interested in expanding her work into ambitious public art projects that invite people to encounter art in shared spaces and see themselves, their histories, and their communities represented with depth and dignity.
Ocean holds a BA in Journalism and Social Justice from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Social Work from Springfield College. Through Ocean Eversley Art online art gallery, she exhibits and sells original paintings, photography, prints, poetry, wearable art, and functional artwork. Her work continues to evolve at the intersection of visual art, storytelling, social justice, culture, and place.
