Nathalie Royston is a ceramic artist dedicated to crafting functional, artful pieces that enhance daily rituals. Her journey began in 2004 at the “Empty Bowl”, where she discovered a love for ceramics and its ability to bring beauty and meaning to everyday life.
I always consider the tactile experience, how a piece will feel – the shape, weight, texture, how it handles, the effects of hot & cold. This is where I begin, this is where I end. My work, whether it is functional or sculptural, is meant to be held, to have tactile interaction. Once I’m comfortable with these elements I move on from function to aesthetics.
In addition to her work as a ceramic artist, for the last ten years, she has been a freelance arts project manager, specializing in large-scale public art projects. Her responsibilities include overseeing projects from planning to installation and deinstallation, and encompass areas such as fabrication, marketing, and communications. She began my career as a studio assistant, helping to build large-scale sculpture for temporary exhibitions.
