Mythsooka

My name is Mithsuca Berry. I am an artist, educator, and storyteller based in Cambridge, MA. Each of my pieces marks an epiphany in my journey of healing trauma – as it relates to existing as a Black Caribbean queer/non-binary person. My work is the intersection between my broken inner child and intuitive/spiritual self. It poses the question: How do I create an archive of imagery, recording the complex emotions that surface in my lifetime?

The community aspect of this work begins with each viewer that engages with my work. We can impact a community by honoring the leaders within each person, young or old. Most of the time that person/innovator/healer etc etc. gets lost in the distractions and trauma this life is full of. We have normalized detachment from self, as a form of survival – to me this is not survival as it contributes to the death of our communities. We need artists to help our communities shed shame, insecurity, fear and so on, so that we will actually be able to handle the weight of our collective issues.

My practice is one of many mediums. All surrounding the intention of liberating the viewer to meet their inner-self. From prints, to public art installations, to exhibitions – regardless of form work aims to make healing accessible to the communities that need it.
