Often described as unworldly and godlike, I see the birds I create as kin to angels. In this new body of work, rather than mimicking nature, my palette and meticulous approach give the paintings a medieval aura while their stature is reminiscent of ancient Egyptian sculpture. Provocative, observant, they are the archetypal embodiments of The Divine and exist in the borderland between mystery and fantasy in their innate if elusive narrative.
Growing up as a US Army brat, I lived in multiple States as well as Germany. I earned a BFA in Painting and Printmaking from Virginia Commonwealth University, and attended classes at The New School of Social Research and Dieu Donne Papermill in New York City. While living in Manhattan before moving to Cape Cod in 2010, my artwork was in many group and juried shows across the country and Europe. There have been two solo exhibitions at Artspace in Richmond, VA as well as two more in Provincetown, MA. Since leaving New York, my work has been shown in Provincetown at The Commons, the Adam Peck Gallery and the Garage Gallery plus numerous group exhibits at the Provincetown Art Association Museum, including seven juried exhibitions.
Recently I received a grant to rebuild my website, www.maureenmccarron.com, and develop my Search Engine Optimization. This has been successful and I want to continue this momentum and hopefully find other grants or funding to help pay for framing and printing limited editions of my work.
