A public artist with a background in architecture and design, LaManche activates public spaces with color, symbol, story, and meaning. From the Stairs of Fabulousness in Boston City Hall to the Electric Chicken in Everett, they create urban interventions and indoor transformations large and small around the East Coast.
LaManche sometimes uses exuberant color, sometimes symbolic meaning and pattern, often their work has a lyricism and larger social or global worldview, but laced with humor: “An element of surprise, and making people smile, is often part of the goal. It’s gentle but unexpected. Double readings, visual puns, hidden symbols, or some simple challenge of perception.”
LaManche has worked with the cities of Boston, Salem, Somerville, Chelsea, and Lowell; Google, Kendall Center, and many others to create site-specific and custom installations.
