Lace Couvige

Artist / Creative (Individual)

Drawn to learn lacemaking as a colonial reenactor, I’ve become enchanted with the many styles and techniques of lace across the centuries. I learned to make lace for my own garments, and to be able to demonstrate lacemaking at historical sites and various regional events. I research lace history and edit Wikipedia with lace facts and reference materials, which I have en masse as the Librarian for my local lace guild, The New England Lace Group

I have a special focus on the only bobbin lace produced commercially at scale in the early United States: Ipswich lace. I can provide presentations of the history of Ipswich lace and demonstrate the creation of this rare and special historic textile.

Challenged by the idea about how people would use lace today, I also create contemporary jewelry pieces using Ipswich lace.

Visit LaceCouvige.com for my projects and workshop postings. Beginner workshops in bobbin lace are underway. Appearances at art and history events are frequent.
