Kat Almonte Art

Artist / Creative (Individual)

My automatism abstract approach and mark making are unique in how they tell the story of my childhood through physical movement and a trance-like state. Engaging in this trance-like state allows me to flush my mind, body, and soul of any ideas stored locally in my brain. I aim to recall memories without the influence of my marred experiences. To achieve this, I must empty my mind, severing any thoughts of present-day Kat, and reconnect with little Kat and teenage Kat.

This method has led me to create a handful of large and impactful works that express culturally relevant primal emotions. Many of us struggle to express these raw and unfiltered parts of ourselves in a way that pleases others. I’m completely fed up with that, and I feel a strong need to repulse those harmful habits. It’s about removing the trauma and shaking it off, allowing for true healing and expression through my art.

My film photography has been a passion of mine since 2007. I have been photographing the majority of my work in black & white 35mm film. Using exclusively Ilford HP5 Plus for consistency and fine grain.
