Kaitlyn Ferreira Indigenous Artist

Boozhoo (Hello)!! My name is Kaitlyn Ferreira, and I am an enrolled member of the Sault Ste. Marie Chippewa Tribe – Bear Clan. Inspired by my indigenous heritage, I create statement beaded jewelry pieces and custom clothing with a modern traditional twist. To achieve this unique look, I incorporate a variety of mediums, including elk teeth, raw leather hide, dentalium shell, and locally sourced wampum. 

I primarily work with minadoomin, which is the Ojibwe word for “spirit bead.” All of my work reflects my spiritual journey… What it was, what it is now, and what it will become in the future. My artwork allows me to simultaneously honor the influential people and events from my indigenous upbringing while shaping my life story. Drawing from my influences and spiritual soul, I am excited to launch two new art collections; Abaabaso and Good Medicine. My hope is the products from these collections encourage others to pursue and maintain a healthy, positive mindset.
