Using clay and mixed media, I make sculptural assemblages and installations. Current projects are “All in the Same Boat”, sculpted clay heads in stoneware boats, and “A Taxonomy of Sorts”, combining digital images and clay shards tumbled into stones and sorted into vintage scientific slide boxes I have worked with clay for over forty years, developing unique flame painted, saggar fired work. These include cremation urns for ashes, (www.spiritkeeper-urns.com) giving me a way of helping people at a time of loss. I make stoneware BreadPots (www.breadpots.com) to fill a growing interest in simple home baked bread. I studied Asian Art which is a powerful influence on my work. I teach an intro to Chinese characters and calligraphy. In 2018 I taught “creative practice” in sculpture in a graduate program at Shanghai Jiaotong University. In 2019, received MCC Artist Fellowship Award. I curated Smooth and Smoky with artists working in the saggar/pit firing method and Clay Dragon Revisited at the Fuller Museum.
