My work is centered around personal narrative built from lived experiences in New England, mythology, and most recently, the color blue. I do not choose between figurative or landscape “painting”, rather I choose to settle on imagery that supports specific memories. I feel that this does not limit material usage or compositional construction. My work encompasses oil painting, fibers (felting), sculpting, and printmaking.
The process of making these works is always time intensive and obsessive, however, labor is not romanticized in my work, it is rather a means of total emersion in my concept. I fixate over accessible imagery that I can call my own, creating a unique database for each piece.
My palette remains primarily monochromatic, using slight alterations in color to accentuate specific moments or to indicate moments of rest and contemplation in my work. Most recently, my palette has consisted of primarily blue, more accurately Phthalocyanine blue. I use this synthetic pigment to create a more realized mythical space as the vibrant saturation of the blue creates an otherworldly effect. My fascination with the color blue began in 2017 when she read the novel, “A Field Guide to Getting Lost” by Rebecca Solnit, where words pertaining to the color blue wavered between two distances. In my work, the blue defines a space between reality and mythology. A color uniquely unbound in our reality.
