Iliana Romanul

Artist / Creative (Individual)

Iliana Romanul is a Massachusetts-based fine art nature photographer whose work is shaped by New England, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, and the North Atlantic.

Iliana is most at home in northern climates, working in low light, wind, fog, rain, and snow. Long solo journeys by train and on foot, including cross-country trips through the United States, have shaped her sense of distance and solitude. She is especially drawn to Downeast Maine, the Faroe Islands, and Iceland – places where weather, birds, rock, and open sea feel vast and elemental.

Raised in a family of classical musicians and artists, Iliana grew up surrounded by creative work and the discipline behind it. She works in black and white and restrained color, often placing a lone figure, form, or trace against weather, water, landscape, or open space. Using only natural light, her field practice follows Leave No Trace principles and prioritizes the well-being of wildlife and habitat over the photograph.

Iliana’s photographs have been exhibited at the Griffin Museum of Photography, Praxis Gallery, Cape Cod Art Center, and Photo Artfolio. Her work has been published, featured, or recognized by WBUR, Mass Audubon, Black & White Magazine, and Yankee Magazine. Her photograph Winter Trace was noted in Mark Feeney’s 2026 Boston Globe review of the Griffin Museum of Photography’s 32nd Annual Members Juried Exhibition.
