A stone carver at heart, I love working with marble, and sometimes granite. In my career as a sculptor, I’ve also created quite a few temporary public art pieces, as a solo artist and in collaboration with other artists, and the community. Most recently, I’ve been designing and building human powered kinetic sculptures, to race in the Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race, an annual, public spectacle of art and adventure. I’ve also been creating small gargoyles in plaster and cement since 1990, and marketing them under the name JWH Studio Statuary. They can be found across the country in small giftshops, galleries and garden shops.

Vermont marble40’ long public art piece, created in collaboration with The Brush Art Gallery artists, and the community for the Artventure series and The Revolving Museum. It utilized recycled CD’s and DVD’s as scales, each decorated by community members and visitors. Detail shot of one of my original designs, the Gossip Monger. This is one of my first kinetic racing machines, build for the annual Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race, and annual event that is often referred to as the "Best Event in Lowell" by participants and spectators alike.The Acousticar is a musical, pedal powered hotrod, with a xylophone on the hood, funky acoustical slap tubes on the trunk, and bellows on the bumper that send air through antique organ pipes on the side and interior of the sculpture.
