Carolyn Wirth

My public sculpture can be seen at the Melrose, Mass. Public Library and Nara Park in Acton, among others. I work with area foundries and fabricators to create memorial and public sculpture which always considers the needs and goals of the community in which it will live. Though I love working in metals, I have also created fabric sculpture for First Night 2000 and other temporary, site-specific projects. Private commissions include garden sculpture in bronze and steel. A teaching artist, I have been artist-in-residence at the Frederic Remington Museum and Fruitlands Museum.

Recent projects include “M/Othering Resistance” at the Piano Craft Gallery, “Currency” at Boston Cyberarts Gallery, and  “FeministFuturist” at the Boston Center for the Arts, an installation of 13 women artists working in media ranging from video to VR fashion design. The FeministFuturist collective is actively looking for collaboration opportunities and new projects www.feministfuturist.com. 

For 7 years, I ran the Hess Gallery at Pine Manor College, a teaching gallery which produced 4 to 5 shows a year @HessGallery and I’m now the Administrative Arts Manager at ArtSpace Maynard (artspacema.org). I earned a BA at Smith College and an M.A. in sculpture and environmental art from New York University. My public sculpture has been reviewed by Cate McQuaid and Christine Temin in the Boston Globe, and the Boston Art Review (with FeministFuturist). In 2002 I received a Boston  Artist Fellowship for public sculpture.
