Bruce Myren is a Cambridge-based photographic artist whose work investigates the intersection of history and the American landscape. He holds a BFA in photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design and an MFA in studio art from the University of Connecticut, Storrs. His photographs have appeared in The Boston Globe, Afterimage, and View Camera Magazine, and are held in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Center for Creative Photography, and Fidelity Investments.
His research-driven projects, notably The Fortieth Parallel, have been featured in numerous exhibitions at venues such as the Phoenix Art Museum, the RISD Museum, and the Houston Center for Photography. Myren’s professional experience includes roles at the Boston Public Library’s Digitization Lab and Harvard University’s Peabody Museum of Archaeology & Ethnography. An experienced educator, he has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, Amherst College, and Northeastern University, and served as the Northeast Chapter Chair for the Society for Photographic Education from 2010 to 2016.
He has received grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Cambridge Arts Council, and the Puffin Foundation. Currently, he is directing the documentary film Fate of the Elms: Myth, Memory, and the Washington Elm, which explores the biological and mythic legacy of the Washington Elm clones.
