I work on paper and on panels with a variety of media — acrylic, crayon, gouache, graphite and photocopy transfer. I often combine images drawn from life with transferred images and invented forms. These have included geometric figures, organic forms from natural structures, and forms that originate in the artifacts and architectures of antiquity — including Chinese vessels and the patterned geometry of Islamic architecture. I’ve tried to create a visual expression of the passage of time by building up many-layered surfaces, which I then sand down to reveal earlier layers.
My work has been purchased by the British Museum, Boston Public Library, Graham Gund and numerous corporate and private collections.
