“I am a Boston-based public artist. I often use the human form to engage the public in narratives that are accessible, interactive and inclusive. My goal is to enliven the viewer’s relationship to a sculpture by seeking out unexpected narrative devices. My studio practice has developed from a focus on primarily sculptural works to include scaled down explorations of space, especially as containers for storytelling. These investigations have fed back into my approach to public art.”
Ann Hirsch gained wide recognition with her permanent artwork dedicated to the legacy of the human rights activist, mentorship leader and legendary basketball champion Bill Russell for the Plaza of Boston City Hall. The Bill Russell Legacy Project is both a commemorative work and an interactive, educational landscape that engages people of all ages. Ann has completed numerous other public and private commissions across the country. She teaches at the Rhode Island School of Design and is a graduate of the New York Academy of Art, New York University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and Barnard College, Columbia University.
