I grew up with historical textile arts around me, pursued a Masters in Science in Textiles and Related Art from the University of Rhode Island in 1993, and worked in living history and art museums, before establishing my own weaving and fiber arts studio and retail gallery in 1998. I find connection to others in an open studio environment, making the art of the craft accessible to others to create greater understanding of the textile arts. My body of work has grown and evolved from traditional weaving, expanding recently to include sculptural sewn coiled fabric vessels and fiber art mixed media collage assemblages, which have been included recently in national gallery exhibitions and opportunities online.
I am influenced by nature and seasons, elements surrounding us in our environment, and with spiritual expression and experiences. I incorporate many of these concepts into my weaving and fiber artwork, hoping to bring mindful awareness of these nuances, connecting “threads” of traditional to modern contemporary living and style.
