Alys began in the world of Broadcasting/Film at Boston University where she got her degree in TV/Film production. She worked in cable television until she decided to see where film would take her and set off for Los Angeles where she worked for two years.
After deciding that the creative process in the film industry was not independent or creative enough for her, she began to immerse herself in sculpture and began working more specifically in steel. After a short time, she began to crave further knowledge about steel manipulation and took several classes at Otis Parsons School of Art and Design in LA, where she proceeded to work in steel furniture and sculpture for the following 10 years.
In 2002-2003 Alys lived in London, studying at SOAS at the University of London, where she worked on her Masters in African Art. This period of study began her fascination with textiles which she worked with alone as well as mixed with metals, for the next several years, including her venture into textile jewelry which came out of a trip to Scandinavia.
Today, Alys is working in metals with her jewelry, and textiles along with mixed media for her installations regarding society and social issues. She has begun a series of installations under the heading of Social Acupuncture/Social Meditation to peek inside of human actions with the possibility of empathy and compassion.
This venture has led Alys to a new chapter in her art career where she is leading Boston middle school kids through the process of creating public art and teaching them to find their voices.
