Swampscott Cultural Council
The Swampscott Cultural Council (SCC) seeks to enhance the quality of life for Swampscott residents by promoting and funding community cultural activities. Through funding from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the SCC awards a number of annual grants to individuals and organizations. These grants, in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences, serve to add vibrancy to the town, introduce a cross-section of cultural events, enrich community life, and connect citizens of different ages and generations.

FY22 Local Priorities
In reviewing proposals for funding this year, Swampscott Cultural Council seeks proposals that promote diverse culture while placing an emphasis on:
– local artists and programs
– new, programming inclusive of the diversity and culture of Swampscott residents
– programs that will benefit the greatest number of residents
– collaborative programs between artists and local institutions
– programs and events that have acquired additional sources of funding
– programs that are free to the public
– meticulous planning
We will draw from the results of the Swampscott Cultural Council’s Summer 2017 community input survey, which identified several funding priorities:
1. Community events and public performances
2. Arts/cultural programming for the schools
3. Nature, science, environmental education projects
4. Public arts projects
5. Supporting cultural diversity
Please note:
Programs funded by the SCC for two years or more will have a lower priority in subsequent years.
Programs or events that take place in schools will be viewed more favorably if additional or follow-up learning will be integrated into the classroom.
Due to limited resources and the interest in providing diverse programming, we are more likely to fund grants between $200 and $750.
FY22 Local Guidelines
Application Process:
Applicants must submit one original application (with any back-up documentation) and 6 double-sided copies.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The SCC is unlikely to fund more than one grant from each organization or applicant.
Applicants must list an event date and venue (or a compelling reason why a date and venue have not yet been established). The SCC will not book events for artists/performers.
Responsibility of Grantee:
The grantee must acknowledge the support of the SCC in its printed materials or with a verbal credit, and, when possible, include the MCC logo (available online at: www.massculturalcouncil.org/contracts/logos_step1.asp). Failure to comply will jeopardize future funding.
It is the grantee’s responsibility to market his/her event in every reasonable way so as to ensure maximum visibility within the community, as well as attendance.
When submitting a request for reimbursement, the grantee should include any documentation of the event, including printed programs, copies of press coverage or reviews, verifying letters or photographs. In addition to the request for reimbursement, the grantee must submit a completed W-9 with an address that is not an address of town-owned property.
Final reports and payment requests are due by Feb. 15th or one year from the final approval notification. Unless a prior arrangement is made, reimbursement will not take place after this date, and funding will be forfeited.
Grantees must email the SCC (swampscottcc@gmail.com ) when their reimbursement request has been sent.
