Rutland Cultural Council

The Rutland Cultural council consists of a group of volunteers appointed by the town selectmen, who have an interest and/or experience in the visual arts, music, theater or dance. Our purpose is to assist local organizations in providing programs or events in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences through grant funding from the Local Cultural Council program of the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Our mission is to use this funding to promote excellence, access, education, and diversity in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences; to improve the quality of life for all Rutland residents; and to contribute to the economic vitality of our community.

FY22 Local Priorities

In addition to the criteria established by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Rutland Cultural Council strongly recommends that applicants:

1) Work with a local sponsor or venue. Applicants must have a relationship with a local organization, such as the library, school, or a community organization. If the project includes an event, the proposal should identify a location, time and date for the event. Proof of cooperation can be provided with letters of support from the organization(s). However, the RCC would like to encourage the hosting organization to be the applicant and assume responsibility for the event.

2) Have a detailed publicity plan for the proposed activity. It is vital that citizens be informed about public funding of cultural activities in their own communities, thus building support for the RCC and the LCC Program statewide.

3) Serve the Rutland Community. Although the RCC occasionally funds projects outside of Rutland, our primary focus is to fund activities that serve the local community and improve the cultural offerings for residents of Rutland.

Meeting these criteria will help the RCC when evaluating your proposal. If your organization needs assistance in planning for these requirements, please contact a member of the RCC for help. Our contact information is found on the Council Information tab.
