Needham Council for Arts and Culture

The Needham Council for Arts and Culture provides financial support to artists, musicians, teachers, performers, and other individuals and groups who can enhance the cultural life of our community. Support is provided through grants that are awarded each year in January, with preference given to Needham-based individuals and groups. The Needham Council for Arts and Culture welcomes both traditional and innovative proposals that will enrich our already vibrant local arts community.

Needham Council for Arts and Culture is part of a direct reimbursement program eliminating the requirement that awards made using the Mass Cultural Council allocation be reimbursement-based. During this pilot program, we will be making grant money available in full to grantees once their projects are approved. If you are awarded a grant, you will be required to submit a final report to the Local Cultural Council upon completion of your program.

FY22 Local Priorities

NCAC COUNCIL PRIORITIES 2021-2022
The Needham Council for Arts and Culture welcomes applications from individuals or groups residing in Massachusetts who can enhance the cultural life of our local community. We aim to fund a variety of programming to reach a broad range of individuals in our community. Grants have historically ranged from $150-750 and typically should not cover the entirety of the applicant’s budget. This year grants may be funded to both project-based applications as well as operational support. Potential applicants are welcome to reach out with questions about their programs and projects via email: needhamartsandculture@gmail.com or can rsvp to attend a virtual grant open house for answers to specific questions on September 21st, 2021 at 7:00 p.m.

We understand that there are many applicants struggling because of the hardships on the creative sector due to the ongoing public health crisis. Following Mass Cultural Council guidelines, we will continue to be as flexible with our funding as allowable. With many applications and a small funding pool, we aim to prioritize needs to the best of our abilities. We know that the arts and culture community is nothing if not creative.

The Needham Council for Arts and Culture strives to support as many grants as in years past, but will give priority to high quality and achievable or flexible applications that most align with the following criteria (not in any order) :
*Needham-based individuals and cultural organizations.
*Submissions that address the needs of underserved or in-need groups.
*Applicants that elevate the diverse voices and experiences of historically marginalized populations.
*Programs that have demonstrated community support, venue, or other organizational support, or utilize partnerships to increase public benefit.
*Applicants that are suffering because of the economic impact of Covid-19.

FY22 Local Guidelines

Applications are evaluated in terms of several review criteria: artistic or creative merit; benefit to the cultural life of Needham; project design; qualifications, dedication and accomplishments of the individuals and organizations involved; accessibility of programs and facilities; appropriateness of project; community support and involvement; and financial need.
