The Middleborough Cultural Council is committed to promote, educate and encourage growth in the areas of the arts, culture and interpretive science in Middleborough. The members of the cultural council are appointed by the Select Board.

FY25 Local Priorities
The Middleborough Cultural Council gathers input from stakeholders and develops funding priorities based on this feedback. This year the Middleboro Cultural Council will give priority funding to projects based upon the following:
• Takes place within the town.
• Serves Middleborough youth, Middleborough seniors and/or the Middleborough community as a whole.
• Involves applicants that have secured a local venue and provides a letter from cooperating partner(s).
• Includes letter(s) from appropriate Town Department(s) if occurring in or impacting an open public area, public facility or public department.
• Supports Municipal departments, Middleborough artists, and Middleborough based nonprofits.
• Aligns with the functional responsibilities of the applicant and/or the discipline of the applying area for projects involving municipal areas.
• Is sustainable if capital items are procured in conjunction with the project.
• Does not discriminate and/or violate local, state, or federal laws.
• Identifies the projected income that will be obtained and how associated profits will be used to directly benefit residents of Middleborough
• Identifies and only supports the cultural component of the project. (Security details, unrelated equipment rental and similar expenses will not be reimbursed.)
• Aligns with general guidelines outlined by the Mass Cultural Council for Local Cultural Council funding.
• Has not received funding from other grantors including but not limited to Mass Cultural Council’s Festival and Projects Program, New England Foundation for the Arts, Southeastern Regional Planning and Economic Development District, and Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism.
FY25 Local Guidelines
In addition to the state criteria, applications will be evaluated using the following review criteria:
• Alignment with local priorities and provides public benefit
• Ability to address the diverse cultural needs of the community’s underserved populations or support diverse forms of cultural activities
• Ability to accommodate the EJCOC demographic by offering free or discounted access
• Evidence of community support and involvement
• Track record and dedication of the applicant
• Financial need of applicant
• Demonstrated planning
