Methuen Cultural Council
The Cultural Council is made up of volunteers who the City Council appoints for a term of three years. The Cultural Council functions under guidelines established by Mass Cultural Council (MCC), which allocates funding to each community. The mission of the Methuen Cultural Council is to support public projects that promote access, education, diversity, and excellence in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in the community or benefit our community. The Council offers support by awarding grants from state-allocated funds to individuals and organizations. The Council aims to act as an advisory group to town committees, boards, and departments promoting the arts and cultural attributes of Methuen.

FY25 Local Priorities
To support public projects by regranting the annual allocation of funds from Mass Cultural Council (MCC). These projects shall promote access, education, diversity, and excellence in the arts, humanities, and interpretive sciences in Methuen.
Preference is given to:
Methuen residents and organizations
Nonprofit organizations
Projects involving local artists
Projects that encourage community-wide participation in the arts, cultural events, graphic arts, fine arts, music, dance, theater, writing, nature, science and environmental education
Projects that encourage participation by audiences of all ages, including multi-generational cultural programs
Projects highlighting Methuen’s history and institutions
Projects celebrating cultural diversity and inclusivity
First-time funding of projects

First-time applicants, local artists and presenters are encouraged to apply.
Non-resident individuals or organizations:
If your program occurs in Methuen, you must have a predetermined local sponsor and a letter from the sponsor with your application. The letter should specify the type and level of support that the sponsor will provide. The application must identify the venue as either in-person or virtual. Virtual programs must be managed by the sponsor.
If your program does not occur in Methuen, you must have a supporting letter from a resident explaining how it will benefit Methuen residents.
Applications must be completed online and include a complete budget.
Any changes to an approved project must be submitted to the council in advance for review.
Publicity must acknowledge the following: “This program is supported in part by a grant from the Methuen Cultural Council, a local agency supported by Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.”
Approved grantees must advertise event(s) in local Methuen media. Grants are made using a direct payment method. Approved grantees will receive a grant packet including An Approval Letter, Grant Agreement, W-9, and Final Report. Please send your completed reimbursement form/receipts and documentation (Invoices, receipts, or paid bills), including costs associated with virtual programming if applicable, evidence that the event took place (programs, photos, etc.), and was credited as promised (copies of marketing, in newspapers, etc.) to: PO Box 1006 272 Broadway, Methuen, MA, 01844.
