FY22 Local Priorities

The first priority of this Council is to bring the maximum benefit to the largest number of Marlborough residents as possible, and first consideration is given to Marlborough artists and organizations. The Marlborough Cultural Council uses Guidelines established by the Massachusetts Cultural Council on all other issues.

1) The proposal is well researched and documented, with a clear and complete plan for execution, including information about sponsors, funding sources, project location, audience, dates, and cost involved;
2) The proposal is primarily for the benefit of Marlborough citizens;
3) The proposal serves the largest possible percentage of the population;
4) The proposal recognizes the cultural diversity of Marlborough;
5) The proposal demonstrates a willingness to present new and innovative programs as well as maintaining existing programs;
6) The proposal does not rely solely on Marlborough LCC funding.
7) The proposal prioritizes virtual programming and the most COVID-19 friendly logistics to ensure the safety of all involved. If the event will exercise in-person precautions, the proposal also offers a virtual alternative.
8) The applicant does not have an outstanding Cultural Council grant with the same proposal of programming.

In addition to the above criteria, this year the Marlborough Cultural Council will give priority to:
9) Projects that focus on: music, theater, photography, painting, landscape design, wood crafts, fiction and nonfiction writing, calligraphy, digital media, or web design

The Marlborough Cultural Council will only accept online applications. Assistance in preparing applications is available by calling the Chair of the Cultural Council.

FY22 Local Guidelines

Deadline for filing applications: October 15th, 2021.

Funding
Payments are made on a reimbursement basis only. Reimbursements generally take 8 to 10 weeks. Applicants submit a reimbursement form, copies of program materials, receipts, and a brief final narrative report as part of their payment request. Projects and payment requests need to be completed within one year of the final award notification and reimbursement will not be made until the project is completed. Failure to meet that deadline will result in the loss of funds. If you need additional time to complete your project, your request for an extension must be made in writing, explaining the need for additional time. Also, major project modifications must be requested in writing, and should not significantly alter the original purpose of the approved application. Extension and modification requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis and are not automatically granted.

You are required to acknowledge the financial support of the Marlborough Cultural Council and the Massachusetts Cultural Council in published materials and announcements about your project. Please carefully review the guidelines regarding credit and publicity requirements on the MCC website.

The Marlborough Cultural Council will only accept online applications. Assistance in preparing applications is available by emailing the Chair of the Cultural Council, Emily Wilde, at marlboroughculturalcouncil@gmail.com.
