Royalston Cultural Council
The Royalston Cultural Council supports a wide variety of programs in the arts, theater, music, and natural history every year. In a normal year, we present the Royalston Open Mic on first Fridays from November to April. We also sponsor the annual Royalston Music Fest each July, which brings talented performers from around the region to Bullock Park for a rousing afternoon of family fun. The 2022 Open Mic took place outdoors, in the summer, in place of the Music Fest. The schedule for 2022-23 will depend on pandemic development.
We also collaborate with the Village School, Royalston Community School,
the town of Royalston, Phinehas S. Newton Library, the South Village Revitalization Association and other organizations to produce programs for students and adults, and with LCCs of neighboring towns to support events and programs that benefit our entire region. FY25 Local Priorities
The RCC gathers input from the community to develop its funding priorities. This year’s priorities include:
1. Applicants that have confirmed the support and involvement of a local community organization (required).
2. Programs that focus on one or more of the following criteria:
a. Participation Science and Art programs for grades K – 6.
b. Workshops and lectures by artists, craftspeople, scientists, and naturalists for any age group.
c. Music performances and ‘Open Mics’ encouraging public participation.
d. Community festivals and events, either sponsored solely by the RCC or in support of other local community groups activities.
In addition to the State criteria, applications will also be evaluated according to the following criteria:
– How well the program proposal meets our local needs and public interests.
– Financial need.
– For programs intended to reach a general audience, a well thought out and executable publicity plan is required.
FY25 Local Guidelines
Our survey shows that the citizenry would like more of the following:
– Community-wide events such as game nights, movie or film series, concerts, and local festivals.
– Enriching activities and/or instructional presentations lead by photographers, craftspeople, artists, chefs and field naturalists geared toward any age groups.
We also collaborate with the Village School, Royalston Community School, the Town of Royalston, and Phinehas S. Newton Library and other local organizations to produce programs for students, adults and families.
