Massachusetts has set a target of net‐zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. So, it stands to reason if we build new facilities, renovate existing ones, or install HVAC systems we should consider how these projects meet emission reduction standards right now.

Mass Cultural Council, in partnership with New Ecology, and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) will host a webinar on November 6, 2025 at 10am to help us plan for and implement the decarbonization of our cultural facilities.

Buildings are large contributors to carbon. Whether your carbon reduction goals are driven by a responsibility to stem climate chaos, or to comply with regulations already in place – and those coming to most cities and towns — the paths and results are the same, a fossil free future. This is a potentially tall and expensive order to fill.

Where does a building owner start? What do you need to know, or think about?

This 90-minute webinar will address these questions and more. It is a great place to begin your understanding if you are new to the topic, or to raise your questions if you are already in the thick of things. Please join us and lend your voice to the conversation.

  • Learn about Green Building Performance Requirements already in place or coming soon.
  • Explore strategies for electrification in cultural facilities.
  • Learn about the decarbonization audit, and action plan conducted by New Ecology for Lynn Museum & Arts Center funded in part by the Cultural Facilities Fund.
  • If your building is over 20,000 square feet learn about the Commonwealth’s new “Large Building Energy Reporting Law” and how this law intersects with other municipal benchmarking ordinances.
  • Learn how to obtain and submit their building’s energy data to the DOER.

We will have ample time for a Q & A. So, come prepared with your questions!
