Mass Cultural Council is pleased to announce the recipients of FY25 Gaming Mitigation grants. Fifty-seven organizations will receive a total of $3,574,200.
The Agency administers the Gaming Mitigation Fund at the direction of the state Legislature, and provides grants to Massachusetts nonprofit and municipal performing arts centers to spend on touring shows or touring artist fees. These grants aim to target funding to those most directly impacted by the operation of resort-style casinos, who have resources to offer higher fees and luxury accommodations to touring shows and artists.
Awards range from $6,000 to $200,000 and are based on a formula that considers the percentage of performances featuring touring artists, and the amount of fees paid to those artists.
Since the program began, more than 17 million dollars has been awarded to more than 90 organizations across the Commonwealth.
For this cycle, the Gaming Mitigation Fund underwent a revision to better serve the performing arts presenting sector across the Commonwealth and to more closely align with the Agency’s equity goals.
These program updates allowed us to fund more new organizations than in previous cycles, encompass a broader range of presenting models, and led to a reduction in the need for revisions from applicants.
In order to help the Agency get a true sense of the impact of the changes made to the program, FY25 Gaming Mitigation funding is a two-year grant instead of a one-year grant. This means the Gaming Mitigation Fund will not be accepting new applications for an FY26 cycle and instead will reopen for applications in FY27.
