The New England Woodcarvers were organized in 1965 by a few local members (in Ipswich), and became incorporated as a non profit educational organization on August 7, 1973 (in Lexington). Their mission at the time was to promote and encourage woodcarving, wood sculpture, and whittling as art forms and to stimulate and educate the community in these art forms. This mission is being done through instruction, exhibitions, and displays both private and public. Because of this dedication the organization has grown through the years to a membership of well over 600.
