Joint Committee on Ways & Means FY24 H1 hearing in Gloucester.

Mass Cultural Council was invited to testify before the Joint Committee on Ways & Means on the Governor’s FY24 H. 1 budget at a public hearing held in the Cruiseport in Gloucester on March 31.

Deputy Director Dave Slatery and Public Affairs Director Bethann Steiner represented the Agency at the hearing and delivered a message of appreciation to the Committee for the Governor’s $25 million funding recommendation for arts and culture through Mass Cultural Council next year. This figure represents an 11% increase to the Agency’s operational budget, and Mass Cultural Council hopes the Committee, as well as the full House of Representatives and Senate, will endorse this figure in their FY24 spending plans.

Next steps for the FY24 budget process include the House budget debate in April, followed by the Senate budget debate in May. Fiscal Year 2024 begins on July 1, 2023.
