Governor Appoints Cultural Economy Advisory Council Members
These public and private sector stakeholders are charged with examining ways to create economic opportunities in the arts and culture sector
Today we publish the 100th episode of Creative Minds Out Loud, Mass Cultural Council’s podcast for arts and culture nerds.
Launched in 2016, the podcast amplifies the voices of arts and cultural leaders and artists while showcasing the vital work happening across Massachusetts’ vibrant nonprofit cultural sector.
For the 100th episode, we’ve turned the tables: Maria Garcia, Senior Editor of The ARTery, WBUR’s Arts and Culture Team, joins us as a special guest host, while traditional host, Anita Walker, Mass Cultural Council Executive Director, becomes the interviewee. They discuss Anita’s 13 years leading the agency, and what it looks like to eliminate mistrust between a funder and a field.
Throughout the podcast’s run we’ve included guests from the arts, humanities, and sciences whose work aligns with our agency’s core principals – including universal participation, strengthening communities, organizational capacity, and creative youth development.
Mass Cultural Council is one of just a handful of state arts agencies with a podcast.
Our staff’s ongoing, extensive field work surfaces incredible examples of innovation and leadership in our sector, so we wanted to create a space for folks working in the arts and culture realm to hear about what’s happening “under the hood” in various organizations and communities across the Commonwealth. This admittedly niche approach to sharing our sector’s story has found a solid audience. Our 99 episodes have had 32,000 downloads to-date. With an average of 323 downloads per episode, Creative Minds Out Loud is downloaded at a higher rate than 50% of podcast episodes out there, according to Libsyn statistics.
