Audience: Primarily front facing, visitor services staff of cultural institutions in the EBT or ConnectorCare Card to Culture programs throughout Massachusetts.
Goals and Objectives:
Participants will learn:
• The barriers to participation in cultural institutions.
• Concepts, techniques, and best practices for creating a welcoming, inclusive experience for all visitors and especially those experiencing poverty.
• The value to an organization of providing access to arts and culture.
Content Key Concepts:
Understanding how our perceptions of people in low income situations have been shaped and how to reframe and refocus with a lens of cultural humility – defined as the process of self-reflection and self-critique whereby the individual not only learns about another’s culture, but one starts with an examination of one’s own beliefs and cultural identities.
